Do you watch "House"? My family and I always get a good laugh from it because damn near every single episode, when House and all his minions are pondering what mysterious disease their poor patient has, MS is always thrown out there.
"Could be Lupus...Could be MS!"
And yet, as far as I know, the problem has never ended up being diagnosed as MS. Why not? MS is perfect for that show with it's numerous, mysterious symptoms...
You'll see... you heard it here first, folks. One of these nights you'll be watching that show and the disease in question will end up being MS. Then we'll see if Dr. House can find the cure for it!
And THAT will be damn good TV.

The Hunt for the Ghost Orchid and more!
After procrastinating forever, myself and 9 other geocachers met up in the Fakahatchee Strand to hunt for a cache called "The Ghost Orchid". As we stood around gathering our thoughts and supplies, a few of us heard a deep, low growl coming from the north side of the road. By unanimous agreement, it had to have been a panther, especially since the very next day, our friends Chris and Misti (who hid the cache) were out there and SAW a panther and took some awesome pictures of it! Our team consisted of MuldernScully, Shade's Brigade, Lj&Co., Spazzler and his crew, Longerdog and Silly Gilley, who after going to this cache a couple other times, tagged along to be our videographer.Off we go!
We saw quite a few orchids, but no Ghost Orchids. I believe this one is a native butterfly orchid. None of what we saw was in bloom, so it was kind of hard to identify things. The area was very dry.
A vanilla orchid? Maybe?
Much of this area would normally be underwater, but our lack of rain has left it very dry. It was hard to call it a "swamp"!

Our total mileage that day was 5.5 miles. It was rough going, but we just went slow and steady. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be.

It was a long walk back down this tram road to our vehicles. Well, not really...only 1 1/2 miles, but my feet were screaming the whole way!
There were several old hunt shacks along the tram road. Some looked prettty good, but others were falling apart. When we popped out of the bushes, we were surprised to see three very nice elderly people sitting off the road at a table and chairs. I guess they owned one of the nicer shacks and were out there to get away from people for the weekend. Sorry we kind of ruined it for them...There were a couple of old, delapidated vehicles out there, too. This one appeared to have been a tourist-type tram car or something...it had an old rack on the roof that made it look very "safari-like". Interesting stuff!!
Before meeting up with everyone at Joanie's Crab Shack, I had to go into the Picayune State Forest to check on a cache of mine that was possibly missing. Lj came with me and Lee and his kids followed in their jeep. We made it out to the cache site to find the tree had been trimmed and the cache missing. Oh well! We turned a corner to head out and there was a big Black Bear in the middle of the road!!! It sort of bounced off the road into the woods as I was laughing and getting very excited. I stopped and waved Lee up next to me. He rolled down the window and I said, "Did you see that bear!?!?!?!?!?" "No. There was a big white truck in front of us."
Oops!
Now yesterday, there was a geo-event at Oleta River State Park. Eventhough it's in Miami, I had never been there before.
Seeing friends and having a chance to go kayaking made for a perfect day. That's my oldest in front and our geo-friend, Erik, in the back hading out in search of 3 caches.

AIdan had a blast playing with the kids. He actually had some of the adults playing hide-n-seek and running around, too. He was asleep before we even made it out of the park. A tired kid is a good kid!
Dennis decided to hide a cache up in the rafters of the shelter we were at. Emily went up to help him. I think this would be a 1/5?
Just hanging out laughing and having a good time!
I took my son's kayak out and it handled great! The hub rented one and said it wasn't too bad, either. We paddled and explored the mangrove creeks...it was nice, but kind of weird. You feel like you are far away from everyone and isolated, yet you hear constant traffic! Yuck! Paddling back we were against the wind for a bit and it was rough. I was so surprised to wake up this morning and NOT be aching! Come to think of it, I didn't ache after the Ghost Orchid, either. Hmmm...not bad for an old fart (with MS, too!!!!)
These are just two examples of why I LOVE geocaching!

UPDATE: This past weekend, I completed my miles for the "virtual walk". My friends and I walked at least 8 miles during the course of the weekend and we all decided it would count for the MS Walk. So YAY! I did it!!! You can still, of course, make donations through my website below. Every penny counts!
Every hour of every day, someone is diagnosed with MS (someone like ME). It amazes me that since being diagnosed with MS, I have had so many people tell me they know others with MS. It is getting to be a fairly common disease. That's why I registered for the MS Walk and that's why I'm asking you to support my fund raising efforts with a tax-deductible donation. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is dedicated to ending the devastating effects of MS but they can't do it without our help. It's faster and easier than ever to support this cause that's so important to me. Any amount, great or small, helps to make a difference in the lives of people with MS. I appreciate your support and look forward to letting you know how I do.

I'm featured!
I found out today that my silly little blog has been featured on Stu's Views and MS Related News by Stuart Schlossman. Stu is a powerhouse of information on MS. He seems to have so many different things going, I don't know how he stays on top of it all! If you ever want to know the latest research being done for MS, check out Stu's sites. I feel like a cheat since I rarely mention my MS on my blog. The truth is, I have been really lucky so far in that since my diagnosis, nothing has more happened. I take my shot everyday and it seems to be keeping the lesions away! I'm sure when / if something more happens, it'll be plastered all over this blog. But until that time comes, I live my life like I don't have a disease. I do what I want with no restrictions or limitations (unless you call a whiney, cranky four-year old a restriction!).
So if you happen to have MS or know someone who does (and I bet everyone out there knows someone with it. It seems to be becoming more and more common), check out Stu's Views! He can be a very helpful.

Brainy update
My brain doc called me today to let me know that the MRI I had last Friday was good. No new lesions. No activity. Can't ask for anything better than that!
(Damn,now I have to quit blaming my forgetfulness on the holes in my brain! Guess everyone will now know it's Old Timer's Disease getting to me)

We just came inside from watching the space shuttle launch at 7:55pm. Amazing that we are SO far away, and yet could see it clear as day from the front yard. Awesome. Simply awesome.

Stupid Insurance Companies!
As some of you may know, there is a medicine that I have to inject every day. When I had Cigna, I'd get a 3 month supply for $20. Cool. Never a problem. Then, my job dropped Cigna and the only real choice I had was Avmed. Now, I can only get a one month supply at a time and the cost jumped to $30! I know I shouldn't complain because without insurance, my meds run over $1000 for a 30 day supply. But still!
So last week, I called to have my script refilled. No problem, they ship it and I'd get it Thursday. Well, Thursday came and went and no meds.
I called the prescription service this morning and at first they said they had it scheduled to ship out the 9th! HUH?!? I told them, uh...no...check again. I was supposed to get it YESTERDAY. The woman checked and it seems there is some kind of problem with Avmed. They need some kind of "authorization". WTF? Fine. I told her I'd call Avmed.
So I called Avmed.
"Is this a new prescription?"
"Not quite. I've been on it for like 2 years and have never had anything like this happen."
"I'll give it to my supervisor."
"Well, how am I going to know when this is cleared up? I've already missed 2 shots and we have a hurricane coming. I need my meds!"
"I'll call you."
Hmm. I tried calling my doc's office, but of course he's closed on frigging Fridays! I was super pissed and this was all before 9:30am!
At 10:30, the script service called and said they'll be shipping it out tomorrow and I'll get it by noon. YAY! Then about 1/2 hour later Avmed called to say it's all straightened out. Yeah, I know. I asked what the problem was, and you know...she couldn't tell me.
Dumb asses. If my meds don't come tomorrow, heads are going to roll. I don't need to worry about that on top of Ike. Stupid dumb asses...

Just another post
So, here it is, payday, and stil no computer. A big thanks to my son for letting me borrow his laptop from time to time.
Today I had an appointment to see my brain doctor. I love seeing him. It's the most painless, quick and easy doctor's appointment I could ever have. All he does is make me hop on each foot, then he checks my reflexes, makes me follow his pen with my eyes, then says, "Ok, you're fine! See you in 4 months!". Well, I knew before going that I was fine. I mean, no one's a better judge of how I feel that I am! Dr. Z told me next time, I'll be seeing a new doctor he's brought into his practice. He spoke highly of him and said that he is trying to get all of his new patients and patients with no problems switched over to him. I don't mind. Dr. Z will still be there, so if I really don't like the new doc, I'll say so and switch back, dammit!
Anyway, I left his office in Coral Gables and made the long trip to Homestead where I work. I drove slow. I got lunch. I stopped and shopped at Walgreens. I went to the post office. Hey, I told my boss I'd be in at lunchtime...I made it into the office at 11:10, only because I ran out of stuff to do. SO I went in and sat at my crappy work computer and caught up on my emails and did some house hunting for a friend.
I have to tell you about my boss. She is a nice boss and is very fair. No complaints...except...she sings. And hums. And whistles. Alot and loudly. I'm not talking current music. Yesterday she sang "The Bear Went Over the Mountain" several times, like a lounge singer. Then later she started humming "There She is, Miss America".
I slowly reached up and turned the volume up on my radio. She only hummed louder. My blood pressure rose. I started banging at the keyboard quite hard and loud. I sighed loud. She kept humming. I went into the bathroom and mouthed a very loud scream. It helped a little. As soon as I got into my car, I cranked up 93 Rock full volume and tore out of the parking lot. I doubt she could hear me. I'm sure she was singing.... My theory is she just likes to hear her own voice.
My new cell phone has an audio recording button. hehehe...I may use it and post it so you can hear what I have to deal with literally every day.
Anybody out there watching "So You Think You Can Dance"? I'm so hooked on that show. Probably because I can't dance. Texas Two-Step and the Cotton-Eyed Joe and that's it.
Somebody help me!

MS Walkathon
Tomorrow I'll be doing my walk for MS. I decided to do what they call the "virtual" walk. I don't understand why they call it that because you're still doing actual walking! It just gives you the freedom to choose when and where you'll do your walking. I'm going split my walk into two halves, each one at a different park (I get bored easily).
I'll leave link to my walkathon page up until tomorrow...just in case anyone out there wants to make a donation!
Today was supposed to be a caching day, but ended up being a cleaning day. I have a ceiling fan that's hanging from about a 20 foot ceiling. It hasn't been cleaned in a very, very long time. Last week, when I turned it on, these blobs of black crap came flying off. GROSS! So today I had my oldest son get the big ladder out of the garage so I could climb up and start the nasty job of removing the black crap. OMG. It was truly nasty. But now it is nice and clean and I should be able to go at least six months before I have to clean it again.
I still have so much to clean...the bedrooms, the kitchen, mop the floors, clean the windows, repaint my bathroom, dust, dust, dust!!!! It never ends. Someone once said that owning a home is like painting the Golden Gate Bridge- You finally get to the end and it's time to start it all over again.
Yup. When you own a home, the chores and "to do" lists never end!
