On our way home from Lake Placid yesterday, we made a side trip through Venus. I was looking for a suitable house on a few acres for a good friend who is thinking about buying a place in Florida.
Not much for sale in Venus. Not even this rustic place!

I love places like that. Wish I was handy enough to restore some of those old relics. I sure hate to think of a day when they're all gone.
Hey, I know of a place for sale. Just shy of 18 acres in a national forest; hog plum orchard; wild blueberries & blackberries; newly paved road; quickly developing town nearby; library about 2.5-3 miles up the road; 3BR, 2b, office, family room with fireplace, ceiling fans galore; W/D included; somewhere around $250k +/-. 8-}
Deer, bear, turkey, fox... all the ticks you could ever want, lol!
Believe it or not, that place would be a bit too close to civilization for her! She wants a place in the sticks...at least 5 acres, a barn would be nice. The house HAS to be one floor without any levels as her brother is in a wheelchair. Not easy to find a place that meets all her criteria!
I love the place
LOL, maybe I should've explained the quickly developing town is the county seat and isn't even incorporated. There's not a single car rental biz in the entire county. The library is 3-5 miles outside of town... go figger. Way up in town, there's a Hardee's and McDonald's, Pizza Hut and Domino's. A couple miles outside the other end of town, there's a WM that they finally built about 3-4 years ago. You have to go about 20-25 miles to Publix, but there is a (pitiful) Winn Dixie in town. The best thing about living in the national forest is it's not going to be developed. You can't see or hear any of the neighbours.
How far out does she wanna be? There are some pretty nice places around here in various stages of booniness. Or is her heart set on south FL?
Well..I'm not sure what her heart is set on, but I know she's been looking in Highlands County. Living in a forest sounds like a dream come true to me, though!
She reads this blog, so I'm sure she'll see what you wrote. Thanks!
We drove by Venus on our way from Fisheating Creek. We drove up to go higher on FEC. Oh, ok, if you turn onto 29 from 27, go maybe a mile or two, take the first right, drive down a ways, we saw burrowing owls!!!!
