You can take the GRITS out of Florida, but you can't take Florida out of the GRITS!

In My Yard

Today I'm going to show you what's going on in my yard, before this rumbling thunderstorm hits. With the rain we've been getting, my plants are starting to flourish. Everything seems happy!

Can you see the Beautyberries and Necklace pods? Well, maybe not now, but hopefully in a few weeks you will!

My beans are coming along.

So are the cantalopes.

My prized Rainbow Eucalyptus is growing good.

Guavas! I have lots and LOTS of guavas!!!!

The pine I pulled up in Highlands County a few years ago is one of my favorite trees in my yard.

My Bouganvillia need trimming, but it is such a painful job to do!

Aidan smelling our little Crepe Myrtle (it doesn't smell).

My absolute favorite flower in my yard! Beach Sunflowers! They grow like crazy and you don't need to water them. I love, love, love them!

My Blackberry lily finally bloomed this year. The picture does not do it justice.

Delighted to see your guavas! Did they arrive in your yard by accident, or did you buy them and plant them? You have so many, it sounds like they might grow like "weeds!"

I rather like the look of what's going on in your yard. A friend gave me a few bean plants last week and they are about the same size as yours.
I've also been taking a few pictures in my garden (between the storms) for a post.

Hi Mary! I planted a guava tree that I got from the Fruit & Spice Park in teh Redlands a long time ago. I am usually inundated with guavas, but the past year only got a couple. Right now my tree is loaded with green ones. I should have plenty to make jam with and other experimentations!

Your plants are looking so pretty! I wish I could grow guava here but I tried once years ago and as soon as it turned cool the tree died and that was the end of my guavas in NW Florida dream LOL Is there something special about the pine? I ask because we spend a lot of time trying to get rid of pines up here because of the sap they drip everywhere. I'm thinking back to my days of living in Homestead and can't seem to remember a lot of pines. What's up with that?

Down here, with all the development, all native trees are kind of protected. If you want to cut one down in your yard, you need to get a permit! crazy.

In some neighborhoods, you see alot of pines, but not in mine. In fact, I need to look, but I don't think there is another pine tree anywhere in my neighborhood. I just like to plant native trees and plants in my yard. Of course, I have some unusual non-natives, too, but at least they aren't invasive like a melaleuca.

There you go again, torturing us with those guavas!

I was about to despair of ever getting any actual melons from my vines... figgered the bees were taking the season off... but we now have a cantaloupe and a honeydew fattening up out there.

Your blackckberry lily is almost as pretty as those myrtle-sniffer lashes! 8-}
