Every morning on my drive to work, I pass an air conditioning work truck. I'll call it "Bob's Air Conditioning". I used to go out with "Bob's" brother. I've been out lobster diving on "Bob's" boat. Not that I would recognize "Bob" if I ran into him, it's the truck I recognized. Small world...
I was just thinking how many people we pass every single day that we may have dated at one time, or went to school with, or may even be related to and we don't even realize it. I was talking to a friend of mine last night and found out he went to school with a relative of mine. I don't even know the cousin of mine he's talking about, but I do know from the last name that we definitely are realted. Small world...
Little things like that seem to be happening more and more to me lately. "Small world" is so true! Just keep in your head that the person you just cut off or gave the finger to, may be a long lost cousin. That Maserati that flew by you doing at least 85mph on the turnpike, may have been driven by an ex-boyfriend. You just never know. So be nice to people and try to do the Golden Rule ~ Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

I noticed a couple weeks ago that besides myself, there is only one other house in my entire neighborhood that flies our country's flag in their yard. Frigging amazing! At least 100 houses and only 2 that show any patriotism. Is it because 98% of my neighbors are not from this country? Does a flagpole just not match the decor of their McMansion? What is the deal???
One of my goals now is to put up a tall flagpole, buy the biggest flag I can afford (why are our flags so darn expensive?) and put a spotlight on it so it stays lit all night, as it should. Right now I have my flag on a small pole extending from the wall of my house by my front door. It's nice, but now I want something bigger. Something that says "I'm American and Proud of it!". I have a feeling it would actually piss of some of my neighbors. Yup. Do I care? Nope. Love it or leave it people!

Dawg! I didn't realize how far behind I've gotten this week. I LOVE your neighbour's deserted BBQ! Too bad you couldn't just buy her house and create a family compound. Is it bad enough to be demlished or just not fancy enough?
You're so right about the small world thing. We went to SC once on vacation and a guy Duller used to work with was staying at the same motel. What are the odds?!
I was on the metro in DC once and someone I knew through a friend was on the metro. It was a very small world feeling!
As for the flag flying, I think to me it is very hard for me not to associate flag flying with Republicans and Bush. It really became a negative connoation for me after 9/11 and I just can't stand seeing it unless it's the 4th or at Veteran's/Memorial Day. It was over exposed and stood to represent too many bad things. JMHO.
Misti, I can see where your coming from. I can. But our flag represents our country, not any one particular person or event. It stands for everything we've gone through as a country and a reminder that we're still here, through it all, good and bad.
Yes, since 9/11, there has been much more flag flying, for sure. I think at that time, people were flying them everywhere as a sign of unity and strength. What's wrong if some people continue with that feeling years later? There are people in my family that have always flown the flag in their yard. Nothing has chacnged that. I just still find it incredibly bizarre, and somehow typical in a way, that only one other house in my neighborhood flies a flag. I talked to a friend of mine who lives in Cutler Ridge and she couldn't believe it. She said in the Ridge LOTS of people fly the flag.
If you have a flag and only fly it on patriotic holidays, that's fine. But I think there's something special about flying it everyday.
BTW, I'm still waiting for those beautyberries to turn white!
Flying a flag does not a patriot make.
It's more patriotic to live by the values we claim to uphold. It's more patriotic to vote at every election. It's more patriotic to read the newspaper everyday, and to keep up with what's really happening around us. It's more patriotic to take a stand to defend the little guy from a bully. It's more patriotic to help out a neighbor in need.
Not that there's anything wrong with flying the flag. But flying a flag is very, very easy. It takes work and sacrifice to be a patriot.
Very true. Anyone can fly a flag, but yes, it does take more to be a true patriot. Flying a flag is still patriotic, though. My whole point was about my neighborhood being full of people from other countires who look down on our flag. Either that, or like I said, the flag just doesn't match their decor.

Hey what a surprize it was to find I had a sister with diffrent parents, who would have know?
My niece and her husband are putting up a 65' flag pole in there front yard. The pole was originally erected at a factory for a visit from First Lady Elenore Roseevelt (Did I even come close to spelling that right) I think it is kinda neat - the flag is 22' by 15' It hard to get a feel for just how big that is.
