You can take the GRITS out of Florida, but you can't take Florida out of the GRITS!

A Bottle Full of Babies

Of the two brown widows I have sitting on my desk at work, only one so far - Charlotte - has had babies hatch out of one of her egg sacs.

At least 50 itty-bitty spiders...

Getting food into the bottle is a bit of a challenge since they like to gravitate to the top where the opening is.  I have to kind of knock them all down before I can open it to drop insects in.
I feel like such a homewrecker when I do that.

I've heard of ant farms and raising crickets, but this is a first for me.

Kind of creepy and cool all at the same time. Why brown widows?

I really want one of each - brown, black and red. I've never seen a red widow and now that I want one, i can't seem to find a black one! The browns are cool, though...more reclusive yet their venom is the most potent of all the widows.

Very cool! I think I would be scared to try to feed them, and feel like a homewrecker too, lol. More yet?
