Fun Monday~ 4th of July

Mama Rehema is this week's Fun Monday hostess. She wants to hear how we spend our 4th of July's...

July 4th is US Independence day, for Fun Monday, please tell how you spend your Independence Day either this year or in the past. Do you have a July 4th funny story you would like to share? Do you have a family tradition for this day? For those who are not US residents, please tell us when your country’s independence day is and share with us how you celebrate/spend it. We would love some pictures too, you can share your stories in pictures too. Please leave your name and your blog address at the comments. Thanks for playing and Janis is hosting July 13th Fun Monday. Thanks Janis.Happy 4th of July.

My family has never made a big deal out of the 4th of July. I don't know why that is, but we never had picnics or parties. In the past few years, we have tried to get out to see some fireworks...sometimes parking at the top of the Metrorail parking garage, sometimes going to the beach, and sometimes just sitting in our backyard watching the 'works going off from our local hospital's front lawn.

Quite a few years ago, I worked at a large marina and we would have huge 4th of July fireworks shows. I got to see how the fireworks were loaded and even got to wire a couple myself. Kind of interesting and a little scary! I think with the current budget, they didn't do the show this year...hard to find sponsors when the economy is low.

Well, this year an old friend of mine, Robert Torra, was playing in a band at Peacock Park in Coconut Grove. Despite the heat and lack of breeze, I really enjoyed the show. It was fun seeing him play his guitar and reminded me of the 80's when he taught me how to play the opening notes of "Stairway to Heaven". I went with my friend Julie, and her family as mine is all spread out at the moment (one kid in Okeechobee, the other in Texas)...we left right after his band finished their set so I didn't see any fireworks last night, though I did HEAR lots of bangs and pops!

If you want to hear the band, check out:RYAN STONE MUSIC.

Sounds like fun to me, I love good music. Thats interesting that you got to see close up how to set off fireworks. Your right, it can be scary, you can never be too careful.

Sounds like the 4th concert under the stars brought back some good memories. We also have a country music concert along with fireworks on the riverfront. Like your town, some scaled back because of the economy. Speaking of helping with the fireworks at the marina, I wonder why safety groups don't just give in and try to do some education about private fireworks since people will set them off regardless of the danger?

My Fun Monday post is up--for some reason couldn't get on Grace's signup. Stop by if you have time. Have a good week and try not to think about how long it will be before another holiday break!

Every family is different when it comes to traditions. Mine was pretty low-keyed too. But we always had potato salad and sparklers. There was no money for fireworks growing up. Even now I wince when I see all those dollars go up in a bang and a poof. ha ha.

I'm clicking out to see Ryan Stone music
