Fun Monday~ The embarrassment of my kitchen

This week's Fun Monday is hosted by Ari at "Beyond my Slab". Her assignment is....

"It's time for show and tell. What does your kitchen counter look like right now? (And no fair cleaning just for the picture!) Do you have any favorite or unusual items on your counter?"

Oh, why this?!?! Why would anyone want to see pictures of my awful, extremely outdated kitchen? UGH! But I am a good sport, so I whipped out my trusty Kodak and took these shots...

First, I want to show you my 4 yr. old son's kitchen. YES, my son has a play kitchen. He likes to cook, so why not? I figure if he continues to expand on his culinary knowledge, my future daughter-in-law will LOVE me! BTW, he took this picture, not me... and the heart stickers all over it were left over from Valentine's Day.

And...well, this is my kitchen. Built in 1968 and never remodelled.

You can't tell, but the FORMICA countertops are a swirly avocado green color. Aren't you getting envious?!? And what can be said about the lovely dark brown FORMICA of my cabinets? Timeless & classic, right?
Um...don't answer that...
I guess I could say my favorite things on my countertops are my canister set and that blue cat cookie jar on the windowsill. I've had both for a very long time. Oh, can you see my little expresso maker? The authentic Cuban kind? Can't live without it.

Note my fully stocked Baker's rack, complete with my reusable shopping bags!

Refrigerator decor compliments of the 4 yr. old...
I'm actually very curious to take a peek into everyone else's kitchen. I'm hoping someone out there will actually make me feel better about mine. Oh, that was a bad thing to say, wasn't it? Bad, but...yeah...I'm hoping someone out there in Fun Mondaydom has an older and more outdated kitchen than me! Time to check it out, catch ya later!!

My kitchen was built in 1964 - I've got you beat. In fact, other than still having the original stove, my kitchen looks an awful lot like yours! Once I get all the bathrooms finished, I'm working on that kitchen. But electrical work has to be done before I start messing around in there. That's why I'm saving the kitchen for LAST.

I have an old, original kitchen too. We don't care much for our house and will probably move again so no point fixing it up for new owners. My dream is to one day have a gorgeous chef's kitchen with all the gadgets.

What matters is you have it organized and everything you need at your finger tips. I have a smooth top stove and I love it. My fridge is filled with photos and art work of my 4 grandaughters.

Compared to mine ( no kids) yours is very neat.

I love the baker's rack, and yes, I could not live without my espresso machine either!!

I believe I lived in an apartment once that had the swirly green avocade counters. With an orange refrigerator.

I think your kitchen looks lovely and welcoming! (You have actual FOOD there and it looks like you actually do things like COOKING and BAKING!! That's enough to impress the socks off of me!) And I love the blue cat cookie jar! Happy FM to you!

You should have seen our 1968 kitchen before we remodeled...ugh. I'm not sure which I liked better, the orange carpet or the paneling.

When you decide it's time to remodel, we can put pieces of your kitchen inside Valentina Volkswagen!
