Fun Monday~ Made Up Words

Nikki is the brave soul hosting this week's Fun Monday - St. Patrick's Day edition.

Here's the deal:

1.) I don't know about you, but my family is great at creating strange words that only we know the meaning. Some were created when the kids were first learning to talk, others came about when our tongues were twisted and the word came out funny. Either way, the words stuck and we still use them in our daily conversations. What created words does your family use?! Please share the story behind the word if you remember. If you don't have a made up word then tell us about the unspoken way you communicate with someone. Do you and your significant other have a look that means "This party is boring, lets split" or do you have a look that your kids know means their butt is in serious trouble? Please share!! And a picture of the look would be very entertaining!

2.) In honor of St. Paddy's Day, please share your worst green beer story!

Well, I have never had green beer, so I'll have to skip that part! So I'll tell you our fmailie's number one made up word..."GooGawtch!" followed by a fake spit.

Yeah, let me explain. When The Squirt was about two years old, he got really mad one day and yelled "GooGawtch!!!" and promptly spit at me, which in turn was followed by a quick smack on his butt with a warning to never EVER spit again! We tried to figure out where that word came from...what was he really trying to say? "Good Gosh!"? No...it had to be something much worse to be screamed and followed by the disgusting spit. About two years have passed and he still exclaims that mystery word whenever he gets really pissed off. For two years, it's true meaning and origin has remained a mystery, but we all find ourselves saying it (minus the spit).

Whatever it really means in his little mind, it must be bad. The worst. So whenever he spouts out some other naughty word, we ignore it and tell him, "Whatever, just don't you dare say "GooGawtch!". Of course, that makes him immediately say it, thus forgetting about whatever cuss word he just pitched at us (I kick your ass is his current favorite...I told him I made soap today and he said, "What??? Soap???? I kick your ass!").

Ah, 3-almost 4 year olds- always entertaining!

I have to throw some in from my oldest son. He had many funny words when he was little, but one that sticks with him to this day is "cinsappeared" instead of "disappeared". We all still say it now and then. Then there were Dr. Peppy, Peetarts and the all time classic - "Red stuff in a cup". I know it's not a "word", but it was what he called Koolaid. Go figure!

We say "flipper switcher" for the remote. ;)

And I don't think anyone would mess with your son when he's in that mood! LOL!

GooGwatch? Could be the new Michael Efkin... (See Min at MamaDrama for explanation...).

The look in that picture... VERY close to the Mommy Glare - but not quite it.

The glare is something if it weren't for the binky. The story of GooGwatch and spit reminders my of an old Gypsy curse. Maybe he is King of the Travelers reincardinated

Thanks for playing!

GooGwatch does sound pretty scary. LOL! We use tons of weird words. Clusterfuck, thingymajigger, and my all time favorite doomaflatchie.

I have a project happening at my health blog. Hope you can join me.

Hi, I apologize for the 'form' letter but it is the easiest way to pass word most quickly.

I am thrilled with the response to the MS Blogger project started at my blog, Brass and Ivory. I appreciate all those who took time to post about it on their blogs. I have discovered even more bloggers who have MS, whether they blog about the MS or not. A new listing is available at MS Blogger Community Project Revised.

Secondly, I'm looking for submissions for next week's Carnival of MS Bloggers. Information can be found at the end of each issue archived at Carnival of MS Bloggers. What I'm looking for this week are posts related to creativity. I discovered so many new bloggers who quilt, or knit, or crochet, or write, or photograph, etc. Basically, what do you do to express yourself?

Thank you so much for participating.

Lisa Emrich

P.S. I also apologize for any increased 'spamming' of blog comments due to my growing linklist of bloggers with MS. For that I am sincerely sorry.
