The Itchies

Last Saturday night, we met up with some friends and did a little night caching in the Navy Wells Preserve, just outside of the Everglades National Park. It was fun...bushwhacking in the pitch black, searching for firetacks to guide the way to the cache. Unfortunately, the bushes being whacked were Poison Wood. Two days later, I broke out in the itchies. I've never gotten a rash from Poison Wood before, it's always been Poison Ivy. Not much difference, though. Ugly rash that itches like hell. It may have helped if I had bathed in Technu, but I forgot about it once we got home. Now it's Zanfel and Benadryl cream! Still itches like crazy, though....

Yeah, excuse me. I have to go scratch myself bloody now.

Purty, ain't it? Thought y'all would enjoy seeing my pain...or more like my stupidity.

Chris has a rash on his arm from this past weekend. I suspect poisonwood as well, but I haven't really seen it in the area he went hiking. And it doesn't look like poison ivy, but it has the bumps that you have. Hrm.

My sons are higgly allergic to poison ivy and after many trips to ER with their rashes we finally got a doctor with an excellent suggestion. She said to bathe them immediately with Dawn dish soap. It's grease cutting abilities make it perfect for washing off the oils left behind by the leaves. :)

Have fun itching. :)~

Oh, bless your li'l ol' pea-pickin' heart! I've never experienced that... PTL... how long will it last? Too long, I'm sure!

Lisa, I think Lj had told me about that once. Maybe I should just keep a bottle in my shower!

Misti, I've been in poisonwood alot and this is the first time I've broken out. I thought maybe you had to really come into hard contact to get it, not just casual "bumping". Guess I was wrong and just got lucky in the past. Poor Chris! Tell him to keep some Technu with him all the time!

Sophiemae, You are lucky! If it's anything like poison ivy, I'll probably be itching for a good week...or more?

OMG!
I've had poison ivy, but never this.
My heart goes out to you. Keep slapping on the creams.

Oh, you should see it now! It's flaming red, but not itching nearly as bad anymore. A friend of mine gave me some cream..triamcinolone acetonide...that she got from her doctor when she had some welts pop up. It has helped tremendously!
