You can take the GRITS out of Florida, but you can't take Florida out of the GRITS!

"Here's Your Sign"

Yesterday, a few minutes after 12:00pm, I was sitting at my desk when I heard this really loud, WHHUUUUMP! What the heck was that? I've heard raccoons and iguanas on the roof of my office...heard branches fall, but this was mucho bigger.

I waited a few minutes before I ventured outside to see if I could figure out what it was. I walked around and looked at all the roofs. Nothing. Hmm.

Later, I told my boss what happened. She asked me when the shuttle was landing. I said, "Oh, it landed safely around 12:20." "Maybe something fell off the shuttle!", was her reply. Wow. I never thought of that... it did fly in across Cuba, so we would've been in it's path...

A couple hours later, the AC started making an awful buzzing sound. I called for one of my co-workers to see if he could check it out. I then told him about the loud WHUMP I heard. Maybe something fell into the AC unit? Well, he got up on the roof, switched the unit off and on and the buzzing stopped. He looked around and didn't see anything on the roofs. (Are you figuring this one out yet?)

I got home that evening and Sam and my Mom said, "Hey, did you hear the shuttle?!?" George immediately said, "Yeah, I was at Black Point and I heard it!" (Do you get it NOW?)

At the precise moment, there was a knock at the front door. I opened it to find Bill Engvall standing there with a condescending look on his face. He handed me a piece of paper and said, "Here's your sign." then poof! he was gone...

(If you still don't get it, email me and I'll fill you in, then mail you your sign)

After a crazy week, I'm finally starting to get caught up. I loved your sister's story and all your snail pics! Never get bored with that kinda stuff. 8-] I've been geocaching, off and on, for a few years now. It's been far too misearbly hot and humid this summer to do much of anything, so mostly off these days.

OK, I read this post and re-read it and read it again to DS and neither of us gets it. Did I mention how miserably hot and humid it is? And how it makes makes me stupid-fried? 8-}

Ok, for it.z and sophiemae...

The big BAM I heard was the shuttle re-entering the Earth's atmosphere. I've heard it before, but never this far south. This time, the shuttle came across Cuba and along the coast, so we got to hear it.

Here I am, the big "Nasa" freak in the family and I totally missed this one. If you don't know who Bill Engvall is, he's the Blue Collar comedian who has a bit called "Here's your sign." (aka a sign that says "stupid" you wear on your forehead).

But sophie, I'm sure you would've known this...the heat DOES fry one's brain cells!

LOL! I thought the BAM must've been the shuttle's BOOM, but I couldn't figure out how that made the AC buzz. DS and I were both trying to figure out what piece of the puzzle we were missing. Neither of us watches much tv at all, so we didn't recognize Engvall's name. DOH!

The AC buzzing had absolutaly nothing to do with it. We though maybe the BAM was something that hit the AC or fell into it. Actually, we still don't know what was wrong with the AC, but it's working fine, now.
